Porbandar is between Veraval and Dwarka the beautiful Porbandar beach is located on the Southeast coast of Gujarat, West India. An ancient seaport adds to the glory of the lovely Porbandar beach. Porbandar's claim to fame lies in the fact that Mahatma Gandhi was born in this part of Gujarat, India.

History of Porbandar beach:

Onshore explorations in and around Porbandar brought to light for the first time the remains of a late Harappan settlement dating back to the 16th - 14th century BC, which is similar to that from Bet Dwarka. This is another evidence to suggest that the Harappan legacy of maritime activity continued till the late Harappan period on the Saurashtra coast. The discovery of ancient jetties along the Porbandar creek signifies the importance of Porbandar as an active centre of maritime activities in the past.

Porbandar’s coastal line is just half a kilometre away from the city. Popularly known as Chowpatty, it is one of the main attractions for the local population as well as tourists, to visit and enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout the year.

Bharat Mandir:
Bharat Mandir is situated in a beautiful garden opposite the Nehru Planetarium, at Porbandar, in Gujarat. The Mandir features several murals depicting great men and religious preceptors of India. There is a huge relief map of India on the floor inside. The building’s pillars are exquisitely garnished with bas-reliefs of over 100 religious figures and legendary persons from Hindu epics. The six distorting mirrors of its verandah’s are much popular among children.

Kirti Mandir:
Kirti Mandir, Porbandar is a national monument of Gujarat that was said to be the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Kirti Mandir is located in the Porbandar city, a seaside town of Gujarat. The city also has a mythological association. It is believed that Sudana, Lord Krishna's classmate resided in the city. Porbandar was thus known as Sudanapuri. The Kirti Mandir, Porbandar has a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi and contains a library with books on Gandhism, a spinning hall, a children's nursery and a lovely prayer hall. In the prayer hall of the Kirti Mandir of Gujarat prayers of all faith are regularly organized.

Sudama Mandir:
Sudama Mandir is a delightful shrine situated at Porbandar, in Gujarat. The temple is dedicated to Sudama, the childhood friend of Lord Krishna. The temple is regarded as the only temple dedicated of Sudama in India. A popular belief among the devotees is that pilgrims can shed their sins by passing through the maze inside the temple.

Tara Mandir:

Dwarkadheesh Temple:
The temple of Jagat Mandir, with the presiding deity of Shri Krishna known as Dwarkadheesh, is an imposing edifice and a superb architectural monument. Having a plinth area of 1800 square feet, the temple consists of a shrine that is supported by 60 pillars made of granite and sandstone. The Dwarkadhish temple (also known as Jagat temple) and its Sikhar rises to 170 feet. The pataka or flag of the temple is changed three times a day. Pilgrims and devotees vie with one another to pay for the flag. There are special tailors to stitch it. Before hoisting the flag it is taken round the temple by the donor. The pilgrims enter the temple by Swarg Dwar (the gateway of heaven) and leave by Moksh Dwar (the gateway of salvation). The temple has rich carvings. The ancient shrine has been supported by kings and commoners alike from its inception. It is one of the important moksh dhams. The Gomti River flows nearby. The Temple is believed to be more than 2500 years old.

Rukmini Temple:
Dating to the 12th-13th century, the Rukmini Temple has beautiful carvings, especially on the pillars of the 'Sabha Mandapa'. The temple was built in honour of Rani Rukmani, princess of Vidarbha, who later got married to Lord Krishna. It is very popular among the pilgrims.

Dunny Point:
Dunny Point, first eco-tourism site, promises to be one more feather in Gujarat's cap. Active nature conservation is a vital aspect of government policy, the declaration of new nature reserves enables, on the one hand, species to thrive in protected environment while, on the other, allows visitors to sample nature without despoiling the ecosystem.

Nageshwar Mandir:
Nageshwar Mandir is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and houses one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in an underground chamber. It is 17 kms from Dwarka. , Gopi Talav Tirth is 23 kms from Dwarka.

Bet Dwarka:
The visit of Dwarka is not complete without a visit to Bet Dwarka, an island at a distance of 30 kms. Off the coast of Okha port, the island is separated by a strip of sea about four kms wide. It takes about half-an hour to cross this channel in a diesel boat operated by the Port Authority. At Bet, there are temples of Vishnu (in the form of 'matsya'), Radha, Lakshmi, Satyabhama, Jambuvanti and Devaki. The sacred pilgrim sight is 32 kms from Dwarka. It is believed that Lord Krishna resided here with his family.

Madhavpur is a small town located 60 kms southwest of historic town Porbandar. Madhvapur Beach is one of the beautiful sandy beaches in Gujarat. Barda Wildlife Sanctuary
Barda Wildlife Sanctuary is located at about 15 km from Porbandar, which faces Arabian Sea. Barda was a private forest of the ex princely State of Ranavav Porbandar and Jamnagar and, therefore, it is still popularly known as Rana Barda and Jam Barda. Entire area is the reserve forest and had been notified as Sanctuary in the year 1979. The settlement of the area has been completed, but final notification is yet to be issued. The Sanctuary is distributed in two districts Porbandar and Jamnagar. The hilly terrain with patches of flat plains at places, the crisscrossing of numerous rivulets and streams and existing dams impart a divine look to the forest. One may hardly abstain from thinking that here is the place, where the saints in ancient times must have attained moksha the ultimate liberation.
